## About In the Studio: Glimpses of Riyaz

Real Kathak happens when the music stops and the repetition begins. In my studio, we do not just run through steps; we break down every 'bol' (syllable) and focus on the posture, ensuring your footwork has that crisp, Jaipur Gharana clarity before we move to the next cycle. This is where you build the muscle memory that makes the dance feel effortless.

### The Discipline of the Studio

My studio in Vile Parle East is designed to be a sanctuary for practice. We keep our batch sizes small—limited to 10-15 students—to ensure that I can provide individual attention. Whether it is correcting the angle of your 'hastak' (hand gestures) or refining the weight distribution during 'tatkaar' (footwork), the environment is focused on precision. We have shock-absorbent flooring, which is essential for protecting your knees during long sessions of intense footwork and spins.

### Why Riyaz Matters

Many students ask why we repeat the same rhythmic cycles over and over. In Kathak, 'riyaz' is not just exercise; it is an act of devotion. By practicing the same 'taal' (rhythmic cycle) or 'bandish' (composition) repeatedly, you stop thinking about the steps and start feeling the music. This is how we move from simply dancing to expressing the 'abhinaya' (emotions) of the composition.

### Our Training Focus

We don't just focus on the feet. My sessions cover:

*   **Layakari:** Developing your understanding of rhythmic math and speed variations.
*   **Padhant:** Learning to recite the compositions, which is crucial for internalizing the rhythm.
*   **Posture & Grace:** Detailed feedback on your body alignment, which is the foundation of the Jaipur Gharana style.
