I keep my groups small, with only 4–8 participants, which allows me to personally help you with the trickiest part of wheel throwing—centering your clay so your bowl or mug doesn't wobble when you pull the walls up. ### Finding Your Center Wheel throwing is equal parts physics and patience. In my studio, we focus on the meditative aspect of the craft. Whether you are a total beginner or looking to refine your technique, my workshops are designed to help you slow down. We move past the basics of centering, learning to manipulate the clay as it spins, ensuring you understand how to control the walls of your cylinder without thinning them out too much. ### What to Expect at the Wheel * **Small Batches:** I limit group sizes to ensure you get actual one-on-one time at the wheel rather than waiting for your turn in a crowded room. * **Technique Focus:** We cover the full process—wedging, centering, opening, pulling, and shaping. It is about understanding the clay, not just making a quick product. * **The Vibe:** My rooftop studio in Pitampura is an adda (hangout), not a sterile classroom. Expect zero judgment, some laughter, and a focus on the process rather than perfection. ### Practical Details * **Duration:** Most trial sessions are 2 hours, which is enough to get a solid feel for the wheel. * **Inclusions:** Everything you need, including stoneware clay and professional equipment, is provided. * **After the Class:** Wheel throwing takes practice. You will create rough pieces during your session. Please note that for the initial trial sessions, firing and glazing are separate processes, as the focus here is on learning the fundamental throwing skills. If you are serious about taking this up as a long-term hobby, we can discuss the foundation courses that dive deeper into technical throwing. ## About Dipti Gupta I’m Dipti, and I’ve spent the last 20 years with my hands in clay. I believe anyone can master the wheel if they slow down enough, so I created a rooftop studio in Pitampura where we skip the classroom stress and focus on the quiet joy of making something real.
