I run a 'Hybrid Live' setup where I integrate live percussion—Djembe, Darbuka, and Bongos—directly into my DJ sets. It turns a static party into a rhythm-led carnival. Since I handle both audio and visuals, I sync custom motion graphics to the beat, ensuring the energy on the screens matches exactly what the crowd is feeling on the floor. My approach to pre-wedding events is centered on the 'Hybrid Live' format. Unlike a standard DJ set where you just play tracks, I layer live percussion—typically with Dino Banjara—over electronic beats. This adds a physical, acoustic element to the music that feels more like a band performance than a recorded set. ### The Audio-Visual Experience Because I manage both the console and the VJ software, the music and the visuals are never disconnected. I use Ableton to structure the audio and sync it with custom motion graphics projected on the venue screens. If the beat drops or we switch from a Sufi track to a house rhythm, the visuals shift instantly to match the intensity. ### Why a Carnival Theme? Haldi and Mehendi functions are often daytime events that need high energy but also a relaxed, festive feel. I avoid 'club-only' aggressive sounds and instead blend folk-house, Bollywood, and tribal percussion. This specific mix creates that carnival vibe where people feel comfortable dancing under the sun or in a lawn setting. ### Logistical Requirements * **Sound Setup:** The venue must provide a high-quality PA system. My console is fully portable, but I need clear sound output to make the live percussion instruments cut through the mix. * **Space:** The percussion rig is extensive, including Djembe, Timbals, and electronic pads. I need a dedicated performance area that allows for direct eye contact between me and the percussionist for the 'jugalbandi' sessions. * **Sound Check:** I require 45 minutes of dedicated time before guests arrive to balance the electronic output with the live acoustic instruments. ## About Ashutosh Verma I’m Dvj Aashu. People call me an 'introvert DJ' because I prefer building complex tracks in my studio over making small talk on the mic. When I step out for your Haldi or Mehendi, I focus entirely on syncing my console to the live percussion, letting the rhythm of the music carry the party.
