Using graphite and charcoal, I work to capture not just a likeness, but a feeling. This was a commissioned piece, and my goal was to bring a sense of calm and warmth to the paper.](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/raw:1/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/b99fc4fc-0180-48c4-9be1-61071d11fe3c) - ![I also work with color to capture special moments. It took me 10 months, not because it was complex, but because of my own procrastination. It’s a hyperrealistic pencil sketch of Zakir Khan, whose work helped me a lot. I am looking for the tiny details, like the way light hits an eye or the texture of hair, that make a drawing feel real. I share work-in-progress shots with you during the process, so you see exactly how your photo turns into art before I finalize it. This gallery is a mix of everything I do, from the hyper-realistic graphite work that defines my core style to color pencil portraits that bring extra life to a memory. If you are looking at my charcoal work, I focus heavily on contrast and texture. I spend hours on the details, like the eyes and hair, because that is where the soul of the portrait sits. My color work is different; I use layered pencils on ivory sheets to get that vibrant, high-saturation look. I will be honest about how I work. I am not a machine. Sometimes I get stuck, and sometimes I am slow, but I keep you in the loop with updates throughout the process. I want you to see the piece building up from a blank page to the final detail. Whether it is a couple portrait for an anniversary or a tribute piece for someone you admire, I treat every commission with the same focus. Send me your favorite photo, and we can discuss if graphite or color is the right fit to make it a reality. ## About Tarun Kumar I'm Tarun, a Delhi-based artist who makes sense of the world through sketches.
