## About Puppet Shows & Performances

Since 2004, we’ve been living and breathing Indian puppetry. For us, it’s not just about putting on a show - it’s about holding on to the wisdom tucked away in our stories, from ancient times to now. Every puppet has a story to tell, and we love watching people young and old get swept up in that world.

### What We Bring On Stage

You’ll find everything from legendary tales of Ramayana and Mahabharata to the funny antics from Panchatantra on our stage. We don’t just stick to the classics - we also do interactive puppet shows for kids, historical sagas like Vijayanagara Vaibhava, and profiles of icons like Meera Bai.

### Our Puppetry Styles

Puppetry in Bharat (India) is a mixed bag, and we try to keep it that way.
- Sutrada Gombe (string puppets) from Karnataka - our personal favourite
- Rod puppets for those big, dramatic scenes
- Traditional shadow puppetry from Odisha and Kerala
- Hand puppets and sometimes even mixing things up with dance

### Who’s It For?

Honestly, anyone who wants a slice of desi culture. We do public and private gigs, big festivals (mahotsava), schools, birthday parties, and pretty much anywhere people want to watch. Kids as young as 2 can enjoy our shows, and adults find the epic storytelling through puppets just as fascinating.

### Some Shows We Love

A few regulars:
- Chudala (a deep dive into self-realization)
- Ramayana Saptaswara (100+ puppets, full-on spectacle)
- Mooshikaa Katha (for kids, but adults usually end up laughing too)

If you’re after something rooted in tradition but always alive, this is it.

## Meet your expert

[Dhaatu Puppet Theater](https://mytribe.in/dhaatupuppettheater)

### My story

We are Dhaatu Puppet Theater, a family-run bunch. I’m Anupama, started out as an engineer, but puppets called me. My husband Vidyashankar keeps things solid behind the scenes, while my daughters jump in on stage. Since 2004, we’ve been chasing the magic of Bharat’s stories. Our puppet museum in Bengaluru is a wild mix of old and new. Got the Padma Shri this year – felt huge, but really, it’s for puppetry, not just me.

### My work

- **Our Offerings**: We do puppet shows, workshops for all ages, storytelling, festivals, doll exhibitions, and run a puppet museum in Bengaluru.
- **Epic Puppet Shows**: Stories from the Ramayana, Bhakta Prahlada, and more. Shows in English, Hindi, sometimes Samskritam. Not just fun – it’s culture.
- **Workshops for Kids & Adults**: Summer camps, parent-child sessions, and Pavakathakali hand puppet workshops. We teach everyone who’s curious.
- **Festivals & Events**: Dhaatu International Puppet Festival and Puppet Santhe. Big gatherings, museum tours, hands-on workshops, loads of energy.
- **Dhaatu Puppet Museum**: Curated puppet collection from India and abroad. School groups, families – all welcome to dive into the magic.
