We use real Amul butter, quality sunflower oil, and absolutely no preservatives or palm oil. When you rehydrate one of our meals, you aren't eating a processed snack; you are getting a full, freshly cooked meal that was freeze-dried to lock in the nutrition, texture, and taste without needing a single chemical additive. Back in 2006, traveling as a vegetarian and a Jain was a nightmare. As an ex-air hostess, I spent years living on Theplas and Maggi because finding decent, pure veg food abroad was impossible. That struggle is exactly why I started Desi Khana. I wanted to build something that let people eat 'ghar jaisa khana'—proper, home-style food—whether they are students in a dorm in the US or families on a vacation in Europe. ### How We Keep It Real We use a 100% freeze-drying process, which is the same technology used for astronaut food. We don't just dehydrate the food; we freeze it and remove the water content completely. This keeps the meal shelf-stable for months without any preservatives or chemicals. It also makes our packets incredibly lightweight, so you can easily pack them in your check-in luggage without worrying about space or weight. ### Our Promise to You - **No Chemicals:** If you can't pronounce it, we don't use it. We stick to real spices, real vegetables, and trusted brands like Amul. - **Jain Friendly:** As a Jain, I know the importance of strict vegetarianism. We have dedicated options made without onion or garlic that are just as flavorful as the standard meals. - **3-Minute Prep:** No gas, no microwave, no stove. Just add boiling water from a kettle, cover, and stir. That’s it. We produce everything locally in Malad West, Mumbai, and ship worldwide. Whether you need a student bundle to survive the semester or family meals for a quick getaway, we make sure you never have to compromise on taste. ## About Desi Khana Hi, I’m Sheetal. I left my career in the skies because I was tired of finding zero vegetarian options when I landed. I started this in my kitchen so nobody else has to settle for bland snacks when they're halfway across the world.
