Instead, try 'sharing playdates' where you set the example by sharing your own things with them. I often suggest books like 'Sharing Time' to talk about why we share, rather than just telling them to. It helps them understand the logic, which makes the whole process much smoother. ### Moving Beyond Screens Many mothers ask me, 'How do I keep my child away from the phone?' The secret isn't a strict ban. It's about being present. If you are on your phone, they will be too. I tell parents that being a child is not new to us, so we know exactly how much attention they crave. Start small: put your phone away for 15 minutes and just engage with them. Whether it is reading a story or just building blocks, that connection is the most powerful tool you have. ### Teaching Safety Through Stories Public places like malls can be stressful. Kids run off and it is easy to panic. I use interactive books like 'Safe in a Mall' to roleplay these situations at home. We talk about what to do if they get lost, how to stay close to a parent, and why we hold hands. When you prepare their mindset before you leave the house, the trip becomes much less stressful for everyone. ### Raising an Early Reader Reading is the best habit you can gift your child. I started reading to my son from the age of six months. You do not need to be a teacher to do this. Keep books accessible all around the house, read rhyming stories they can memorize, and make it a fun ritual before bed. The goal is to make books a source of joy, not a chore. ### Addressing Common Concerns If your child is not interested in writing or is struggling with social cues, take a breath. There are no shortcuts. Focus on fun learning through art, storytelling, and play.
