We see it every day: "thoda sa pani dala tha" (I just added a little water), and suddenly you have a mold problem. Most terrariums are self-sustaining ecosystems. If you see condensation on the glass, your plants are already recycling moisture. Adding more water is almost always the mistake that causes trouble. ### The Reality of Closed Ecosystems People often assume a closed terrarium is a 'set and forget' piece. While it is low-maintenance, it is not magic. You are managing a micro-climate. ### Light: The Fuel for Your Tiny World The most frequent issue we see in Delhi NCR is terrariums kept in dim corners. If your plant is stretching, leaves are yellowing, or mold is appearing, it is starving for light. - **The Fix:** Place your terrarium in bright, indirect light. Never use direct sunlight, as it creates a greenhouse effect that will cook your plants. If your home is naturally dark, an artificial grow light for 8 to 10 hours works perfectly. ### The Mold Myth Seeing mold? Do not panic. It is usually a sign of two things: lack of airflow or too much moisture. - Wipe the glass clean. - Leave the lid off for a few hours to let excess humidity escape. - Check if the light levels are adequate. ### Why Finicky Plants Love Terrariums We often advise against keeping plants like Calatheas, Anthuriums, or Alocasias in standard Delhi living rooms. Our dry air, hard water, and temperature swings are brutal for them. But inside a closed terrarium? They flourish.
