## About Advanced Character Development

### Why I Run This Workshop

I believe stories are only as strong as the people inside them. If you’ve ever wondered why some characters pop off the page and others feel flat, it’s because real life is messy and layered - and so should our fiction be. My approach combines creative writing with psychology, making sure we get under the skin of our characters, not just dress them up.

### How We Do It

I collaborate with Kalpana Tanwar, a psychotherapist, so you’re not just learning from a writer but also from someone who knows the ins and outs of human behaviour. Together, we mix theory, practical writing exercises, and role-play. Our five-week workshop isn’t just talk - you’ll work hard, get a little uncomfortable, and come out seeing your characters in a new light.

- We dig into Jungian archetypes for writers
- Explore how psychological realism in fiction makes characters stick
- Break down power dynamics in storytelling, both subtle and obvious
- Work on character arc transformation so your people actually change, not just move from A to B
- Sharpen your POV choices to punch up your narrative

### Who Should Join

If you’re a BWW Classic alum ready for a deep-dive creative writing workshop, this is for you. It’s not a beginner’s playground - we get into the gritty stuff. The vibe is friendly, no-show-off zone, and you’ll probably leave with more than just writing lessons.

### Workshop Details

We meet in person on Sundays, for five weeks. Each session runs 10:30 am to 1:30 pm, and we use lectures, group chats, exercises and role-play. It’s intense but worth it.

## Meet your expert

[Bhumika Anand](https://mytribe.in/bangalorewriters)

### My story

We’re Bangalore Writers Workshop, but honestly, most of us just call it BWW. Started off in coffee shops, now we’re this wild bunch of accidental writers, poets, and storytellers. You walk in a stranger, maybe by mistake, and walk out with a tribe. We’ve had paav bhaji picnics, Cubbon Park graduations, and writing retreats that felt like family. It’s not just about the words – it’s about finding your people, cheering every win, and growing together. That’s why we do this.

### My work

- **Workshops & Courses**: We run creative writing workshops Bangalore folks love - short stories, poetry, play reading, translation, and special psychology-meets-writing courses.
- **Hands-on Workshop Model**: No boring lectures. We do critique, role-play, writing activities, and deep talks. Feels more like therapy sometimes.
- **Finish What You Start**: We help you stop being a serial first drafter. The group keeps you accountable till your story or poem is done.
- **Stories with Heart**: We push for openness and empathy, helping you build dynamic characters and work with soul.
- **Writing Community Support**: You’ll meet other writers, become a better reader, and maybe find your writing family.
