I don't use a studio for these sessions; I bring a compact, folding palette and a sketchbook so I can set up anywhere in under five minutes. If you are looking to get into it, don't worry about perfect results. Bring a basic travel kit, find a shady spot, and focus on the feeling of the place rather than creating a photo-realistic replica. When I am out in the field, I am not just sketching; I am trying to remember how the air felt. Whether it is the smell of salt at a Tanur beach or the hum of drums at Thrissur Pooram, the environment is my primary reference. My method is rooted in keeping things honest and portable. ### My Plein Air Setup I prefer watercolor and gouache because they dry fast, which is essential when the sun is moving across the sky. My kit is minimal: a 250 GSM sketchbook, a small folding travel palette, and a couple of brushes.
