We don’t do elaborate, noisy stage productions that overwhelm children. Instead, we focus on the Montessori 'Walk Around the Sun' for birthdays or meaningful cultural festivals where children participate at their own comfort level, keeping the focus entirely on their joy and social connection rather than performance. In a Montessori environment, every activity has a purpose, and our celebrations are no exception. When we mark festivals like Diwali or Independence Day, it isn't just about the event. It is an opportunity for children to practice grace and courtesy, learn about different cultures, and develop their social-emotional intelligence. ### The 'Walk Around the Sun' Birthday Tradition One of the most special moments at Ayelet is the birthday celebration. We avoid sugar-heavy parties. Instead, we perform the 'Walk Around the Sun' ceremony. The child walks around a sun model with a globe, representing each year of their life, while sharing milestones with their friends. It helps them understand the passage of time and makes them feel valued as an individual. ### Culture and Community We also prioritize keeping our school a 'prepared environment' even during celebrations. Whether we are setting up for a potluck or crafting decorations for a festival, children are often involved in the preparation. This builds a sense of ownership and belonging. We see parents as our partners in this journey, and these events are often the best time for our community in Bangalore to come together, observe their child in a social setting, and see the independence they have built. If you are looking for a school where your child is celebrated as an individual rather than just one of the crowd, we would love to have you visit our space. ## About Ayelet Montessori I am Falak, and at Ayelet, I see celebrations as the heartbeat of our community. My goal isn't to put on a show for parents, but to create authentic moments where children feel truly seen and connected to their friends and heritage.
