I prioritize the classic work triangle—stovetop, sink, and prep area—to ensure efficiency, then layer in striking finishes like burnished copper, matte black lacquer, or natural stone to reflect your personality. It is about balancing the practical requirements of cooking with the art of fine living. Designing a kitchen is not just about choosing cabinet colors. It is about optimizing flow and selecting materials that stand up to heat, spills, and constant use. In my practice, I often recommend using marine-grade plywood for cabinetry to ensure longevity, especially in humid Mumbai conditions. For hardware, I prefer soft-close systems from reputable brands like Hettich or Hafele to maintain a quiet, seamless experience. ### Material Selection Whether you lean toward an industrial look with exposed brick or a more refined aesthetic with Italian marble countertops and rose gold fittings, your material choice dictates the kitchen's lifespan. I often pair dark, moody base cabinets with lighter overhead storage to keep the space feeling open, even in smaller apartments. ### Layout and Workflow - **Island Additions:** If your floor plan allows, an island adds both counter space and a social hub for family breakfasts. - **Storage Solutions:** We implement floor-to-ceiling cabinetry and deep drawer systems to keep counters clear and clutter-free. - **Lighting Layers:** We move beyond a single tube light. I suggest layered lighting with COB spots for prep zones and LED strips under cabinets to remove shadows while cooking. Every project is different. Some clients want a minimalist, modern space, while others prefer a classic look with ornate touches. My process involves deep listening to how you use the kitchen—whether you are a home chef who needs deep storage for spices or someone who wants a social, open-plan space for entertaining. We focus on these details to ensure the final result is a kitchen you truly love using every single day. ## About Aum Architects At Aum Architects, we look at your cooking habits, your storage needs, and your love for aesthetics to build a space that works as hard as you do.
