My approach focuses on converting these forgotten zones into functional open-air extensions of your home by using bar-height seating, vertical greenery, and weather-resistant materials. Whether it is a compact high-rise ledge or a larger terrace, I design them to keep the floor uncluttered while framing your specific city view. Design is a dialogue between the interior and the world outside. When we worked on the Filigree House in New Cuffe Parade, the goal was not just to add furniture, but to create a seamless transition from the living area to the skyline. ### The Art of the Open-Air Sanctuary A balcony requires a different design lens than an interior room. You are dealing with wind, rain, and dust, so durability is the foundation of the aesthetic. I prioritize: * **Weather-Resistant Materials:** We use marine-grade wood, composite decking, and powder-coated metalwork that can withstand Mumbai's humidity. * **Vertical Utility:** By using the walls for planters and lighting, we leave the floor open, making small balconies feel significantly larger. * **Strategic Privacy:** In high-density areas, we incorporate discreet netting and layered greenery to offer privacy without blocking the light or the view. ### Your Vision, Our Execution I want your balcony to be the space where you start your morning with coffee or decompress after sunset. We look at the orientation of your apartment, the floor height, and how the light hits your ledge. Then, we curate the seating, the textures, and the layout to ensure it feels like a natural part of your home, not an afterthought. If you have a vision for a specific mood, let us talk about how we can anchor it in your space. ## About Aum Architects I am the lead at Aum Architects. For me, a balcony is a personal sanctuary where the home meets the skyline. I design these spaces to be the point where you finally exhale, whether you are overlooking the city or tucked away in a quiet corner.
