When I paint these, I use professional-grade acrylics on canvas to ensure the colors stay vibrant, though remember that because these are hand-painted, the fine details will always have the unique touch of my brush. Paitkar is an ancient folk art form originating in Jharkhand. It is historically known for its narrative power, often used in the past as a scroll painting medium to tell stories. I have adapted this traditional language to capture everything from cultural rituals like the Ganga Aarti to modern themes where women break societal barriers. ### How I Create Your Paitkar Piece Each painting starts with a deep dive into the story you want to see. Paitkar relies on bold, decisive lines that define the characters, which I then fill with deep, saturated acrylic colors. My goal is to maintain the energy of the scroll painting style while ensuring it fits perfectly on a modern canvas. ### Customization and Process When you commission a Paitkar painting, we start by discussing the scene. Do you want a traditional mythological depiction, or do you have a personal event you want to capture? I work primarily on primed cotton canvas or archival paper. Once the painting is finished, I apply a protective varnish coat to ensure the artwork is UV resistant and durable. Since these pieces are custom, the process involves sketching, layering the colors, and waiting for the right drying time, so please account for the creation timeline when ordering. ## About Neelam Gupta Namaste, I am Neelam. Art is my shradha, and Paitkar is the medium I use to share stories that matter to me. I pour my mehnat into every scroll-style painting, hoping that when you hang one on your wall, you feel the same connection to our roots that I do.
