These are not just names, they are synthetic preservatives and foaming agents that can strip your skin's natural oils. When I started making my own skincare, I realized that simple is better. My advice is that if you cannot pronounce it or do not know where it comes from, it probably does not need to be on your face. When I look at a back label, I am not just looking for the product name. I am checking for the 'nasties' that have become too common in commercial beauty. Parabens, for instance, are often used to stop mold, but they are synthetic preservatives that can mimic estrogen and potentially disrupt your body's hormone balance. Similarly, sulfates like SLS and SLES are just there to create a foamy lather, but they often leave your skin feeling tight, dry, and irritated. At Arthlings, we do things differently. We use cold-process methods for our soaps, which keeps the natural glycerin intact so your skin stays hydrated. We do not use artificial fragrances, which are often just a cocktail of undisclosed chemicals. Instead, we use steam-distilled essential oils from plants like lavender or sandalwood. These do not just smell great, they have actual therapeutic benefits for your skin. Take our rose water, for example. It is made via traditional deg bhapka steam distillation at our farm in Maharajganj, UP. There are no fillers or synthetic alcohol.
