We always recommend trimming your cotton wick to about a quarter-inch before every use. This simple habit prevents excess soot, keeps the flame steady, and ensures the soy wax melts evenly, which prevents tunneling and gives you significantly more burn time from every jar. ### Mastering the Memory Burn When you light your candle for the first time, allow it to burn until the wax melts across the entire surface to the edges of the jar. This is called the 'memory burn.' Soy wax has a memory; if you extinguish the flame before it reaches the edge, the candle will likely tunnel on future burns, wasting wax and reducing the scent throw.
