These forms serve a dual purpose, as the large arches define communal gathering areas while the smaller ones guide movement through the space. This approach shows how specific structural choices can make a modern building feel deeply rooted in its surroundings without resorting to simple imitation of the past. ### Our Approach to Heritage For us, heritage is not a static object to be put behind glass. It is a live conversation. When we take on a project, whether it is a heritage-rich apartment block in Chennai or an industrial site like the Reshamkhana silk factory in Srinagar, our goal is to find the story the existing structure is already telling. ### Why Context Matters Design problems often become opportunities when you look at the site's history and constraints. In our feasibility audits, we look beyond the surface. We map distress signals like cracks or dampness while analyzing structural capacity. This allows us to determine what can be saved and what needs modern surgical intervention. ### The Technical Side We focus on these key areas during interpretation: * **Structural Retrofitting:** Using steel or reinforced concrete to support new layouts without erasing the building's soul. * **Material Conservation:** Rescuing original bricks and timber rafters to keep the material history alive within the new design. * **Passive Climate Design:** Restoring traditional ventilation methods like courtyards to reduce reliance on artificial cooling, which is often more sustainable than modern HVAC systems.
