It requires careful planning of the layout to ensure the Marathi script remains balanced from start to finish. If you are planning an event or festival in Pune or elsewhere, these scrolls serve as a striking visual centerpiece that brings traditional Devanagari lettering to life. My love for Marathi calligraphy goes back to my days at Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya. I was lucky to have mentors like Babu Udupi sir, who taught me the discipline of sit-down calligraphy, and I have long admired the work of Achyut Palav sir. This craft is about more than just writing; it is about managing space, pressure, and the specific motion required to create those sweeping Devanagari characters. ### The Process For large-scale projects, like the 15-foot paper rolls I create for cultural festivals such as Gulmohar Day, I use heavy-duty paper and custom-made wide flat brushes or reed pens. Whether I am using high-flow acrylics for outdoor displays or traditional inks for indoor settings, the goal is the same: to create a piece that feels alive. ### How We Can Work Together I am based in Pune but frequently travel across India for: * **Festival Demonstrations:** Creating continuous 15-foot calligraphy scrolls live, which become a focal point for attendees. * **Cultural Events:** Writing poems, welcome messages, or quotes in traditional Marathi or Devanagari scripts. * **Educational Talks:** Sharing my research and thought process behind letterforms with students. Each stroke is deliberate, influenced by the classical styles I have studied for years. If you have a specific text, poem, or welcome message in mind, let me know, and we can discuss the best scale and material for your venue. I believe the energy of the live process, watching the script unfold on the floor, is what makes this art special. ## About Amit Dhane I’m Amit, and I’ve been practicing Devanagari script since my college days in Pune. My approach comes from years of learning under masters and watching my father paint, focusing on the discipline and rhythm of every stroke. Whether it’s a 15-foot scroll for a festival or a custom piece for your home, I bring that same careful, traditional practice to every project.
