We combine timeless structural elements like arches and vaults with the precision of modern climate-responsive building. ## Photos and videos - ![For a modern duplex residence, I drew inspiration from Regency-era elegance to create a living room that feels both grand and comfortable. A bookmatched marble feature wall, fluted wood paneling, and integrated LED lighting come together to form a space that is sophisticated and livable.](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/raw:1/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/3727816d-a374-4730-83c3-5d8b1069378d) ## About New Residences with Historic Soul When we build new spaces with a historic soul, we do not just rely on decorative arches. We focus on structural rhythm, such as barrel vaults and fluted walls, that gives a home its unique character. Then we layer in modern essentials, such as thermal-efficient glazing and smart electrical planning, to ensure the space functions as well as it feels. Creating a modern home that feels rooted in time is a precise exercise in balance. Our approach starts with the bones of the structure. We use architectural elements like high ceilings, barrel vaults, and arched doorways—features that naturally improve airflow and provide a grand sense of volume. Materiality is where the past meets the present. We prioritize durable, classic materials: Italian marble for cool, clean flooring and teak wood for doors and carpentry. These materials age beautifully, gaining character over years rather than losing their shine. The historic soul often lies in how we manage light. We use techniques like deep window recesses and clerestory openings to control harsh sun, similar to how traditional homes were designed before modern air conditioning. This makes the home naturally cooler and more comfortable in the Bengaluru climate. Every project begins with a concept phase where we map out your needs against these classic design principles. We handle everything from the initial 3D visualization and material sourcing to the technical site supervision, ensuring that the final build is as sturdy as it is stunning. ## About Amalgrain Studio I started Amālgrain Studio to show that new homes can have roots. My team and I do not just draft floor plans. We obsess over the interplay of light and shadow, the tactile feel of teak, and the way a home should age gracefully.
