## About Custom Art & Paintings

### Why I Paint

Art is how I try to make sense of things. For me, painting is not just about making something pretty for the wall. It’s about telling stories, asking questions, and sometimes, just sitting with the messiness of life. If you want a custom piece, we’re not just making decor - we’re making something that means something.

### What I Can Create

- Portraits of people and families, even from old or unclear photos. I care more about capturing the emotion than getting every detail perfect. Likeness is enough, but the feeling is everything.
- Spiritual and deity portraits, like Krishna, but not just as religious icons. I like to paint the ideas behind them - mindfulness, detachment, whatever you connect with.
- Large-scale thematic art. If you have a big idea or want to see your journey or a concept like ‘rest as resistance’ on canvas, I’m up for it. I’ve done feminist art narratives and reimagined Tamil literature too.

### How We’ll Work Together

- We start with your story, vision, or a photo.
- We talk about what you want the painting to feel like.
- I use whatever materials fit the story - acrylic, oil, ink, on canvas, wood, or silk.

A painting can hold a memory, an emotion, a piece of your soul. Let’s make something that lasts. Anbe sivam (Love is God).

- ![This is "The Thinai Project," a series of four large scale paintings on silk that I created for a client's living room. It reinterprets ancient Tamil literature from a modern, feminist perspective, with each panel designed to catch the sun's light at a different time of day. This is the kind of immersive, conceptual art we can bring to your space.](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/raw:1/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/ef5b400a-dc45-4c7e-b191-3cdca3b0aafe)

It is a painting about ambition and breaking the glass ceiling.](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/raw:1/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/bc704435-b23a-4cb7-a924-9304bf84da56)

## Meet your expert

[Girija](https://mytribe.in/2flatbrush)

### My story

I’m Girija, words spill out of me - sometimes it’s just tears. My mind races, my body’s always catching up. Never had it easy, life’s a wild ride, but I’ve always had love. My sisters, my friends, my partner of 17 years, and my daughter - watched her grow from a tiny preemie to a fierce, kind adult. My mom was my first home, poured love into me. When it’s all too much, I run off to Tiruvannamalai, or float in a river. Water holds me. Still searching. Jai Bhim 💙

### My work

- **Murals, illustrations, and workshops**: I make political mural art, book illustrations, portraits, and run gender violence art workshops.
- **Art as activism**: My art starts tough conversations - about gender, child abuse, society. Truth is art for me.
- **Process over perfection**: I let the paint lead, focus on energy and likeness. Expressive portrait painting, never just realism.
- **Art for NGOs and families**: I work with NGOs, collectives, and make commissioned family art that lasts beyond us.
